How will Presbyterian SeniorCare Network communities make my life easier?

You’ve reached the stage of life where doing what you want to do is what you should do. Skip the chores, enjoy delicious meals, carefree living, new friends and neighbors. And enjoy the security of medical care and support that suits your individual needs. This stage of life can be something to truly enjoy.

  • Do I have to be Presbyterian to live at one of the communities or receive care and services in my home?

    No. Each of our Presbyterian SeniorCare Network communities welcomes residents of all faiths. If you live in one of our communities, you’ll find programs to meet the spiritual needs of a variety of denominations.

  • Do I have to be a certain age to live at a Presbyterian SeniorCare Network community?

    No, but we specialize in long-term care for older adults. Generally, your medical needs will be the primary factor in determining admission and your level of care.

  • What are the different types of care available?

    Through our three Pennsylvania communities – Elmwood Gardens in Erie, Manchester Commons in Fairview and Oakwood Heights in Oil City, Presbyterian SeniorCare Network offers a continuum of living and care options. These include independent living, personal care, skilled nursing, short-term rehabilitation and memory care. Please note that personal care is not currently available at Oakwood Heights.

  • What happens if additional care is required?

    Because we offer a continuum of care, our residents have a distinct advantage when their needs change. With a full range of residential options, we can help you transition to the care you need at any time.

  • What is a continuing care retirement community?

    A continuing care community, or CCRC, offers a variety of accommodations and services for an ongoing monthly fee. As we noted above, with the full range of services available at Presbyterian SeniorCare Network communities our residents have preferred access to more care whenever needed.

  • Does my doctor have to refer me to a Presbyterian SeniorCare Network community?

    No, a doctor does not need to make the referral. You or your family may contact us directly concerning residency. However, your doctor will need to write the order for the care and services you are to receive. Please note that we do require a medical examination before admission to ensure you receive the appropriate level of service and care.

  • Can I keep my primary care physician?

    Yes. You can keep your same primary care physician, but any physician must be credentialed by Presbyterian SeniorCare Network to provide care at any of our communities.

  • Are tours available?

    Yes. All our Presbyterian SeniorCare Network communities are open 24 hours a day, seven days a week. We are happy to accommodate your schedule to tour. Simply contact Admissions at the respective community.

  • Are children able to visit?

    Absolutely…this is your home! As with all family and friends, visitors are welcome at your choosing. Visiting hours are unrestricted at all our communities and we hold many events and activities to which family and friends are invited.

  • Can I bring furniture from home?

    Yes. In our Independent Living and Personal Care residences, we do not limit any kind of furniture unless it poses a safety hazard to other residents, visitors or our employees. Many residents bring their own couches, recliners, tables, plant stands and televisions. Our Skilled Care rooms are fully furnished, but residents are encourage to bring personal items for their new home.

  • What happens if I run out of money to pay for my care?

    If a resident depletes all resources through no fault of their own, we will explore all available financial options to assist you. Contributions to our Caring for Life program help to ensure that we can continue to provide high quality care and support at an affordable cost.

  • How do I know when skilled nursing is needed?

    Our residents in skilled nursing typically require help with most daily living activities, such as getting out of bed, eating, bathing, dressing, and using the bathroom. They also may have chronic health conditions that require ongoing professional nursing care and support.

  • Does Medicare pay for any portion of my care?

    Your level and type of care determine what Medicare will cover. Medicare may cover the cost for care provided by a skilled professional, such as a physical or occupational therapist. It will not provide reimbursement for independent living or personal care.

    How often can guests visit?

    Our communities are open 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Visitors are always welcome, but we have found the most convenient hours for residents are between 9 a.m. and 9 p.m.
